Start with the length and shape of your trip

Before listing individual items, consider the trip itself. How long will you be away? Where are you staying? Have you planned walks, beach days or particular activities? Use those answers to make a suitable selection. Check the weather forecast, accommodation facilities and luggage rules directly with the relevant providers too. The checklist is a collection you maintain yourself. You decide what belongs on it and what can stay at home for this holiday.

Agree on the things you will share

Everyone might need a charging cable, while one card game is enough for the group. Put shared items on the shared checklist and agree on who will bring them. A short addition to the item text, such as a name, records that arrangement. Household members can edit and tick off shared entries. You can prepare together and see what is still unfinished the next time you check the list, without needing to piece together several separate messages.

  • Write one recognisable item or specific task per entry.
  • Add a name or quantity to the text when you are sharing luggage.
  • Tick off an entry once the item is packed or the task is complete.

Include the preparations before you leave

A useful holiday list goes beyond the suitcase. Getting documents ready, checking how to reach the accommodation and agreeing on an arrival time are preparations too. Give each of those tasks its own entry. Broad items such as organise all the travel are difficult to tick off; specific steps are easier to follow. Add fixed arrangements to your daily itinerary as well. The checklist then answers what still needs doing, while the itinerary shows when something is happening.

Check the remaining items together

Before setting off, open the trip once more and review the items that are still unfinished. Remove something if you have deliberately decided not to take it, or add a small detail you have just remembered. Shared checklist changes synchronise when you have an internet connection. Keep labels short enough to understand quickly on a phone. The checklist is a free core feature of Packbay and stays alongside the rest of your travel planning.

FAQ

Does Packbay generate a packing list automatically?

You create your own entries and adapt them to the trip. Packbay helps you collect items and tick them off together. The list on this page provides ideas; it is not automatically added to your trip.

Can several people use the same checklist?

Yes. The shared checklist belongs to the trip in your household. Members can add, tick off and remove shared items. If a particular person will bring something, record your agreement with a short addition to the item text.

Can I start the list on my own?

Yes. You can create a trip and begin maintaining the checklist yourself, then invite fellow travellers to your household later. You do not need a Premium subscription for the checklist or the core travel planning features.

Start with the things you really need to bring.

Create your trip and add the first few entries. Even a short, relevant checklist gives you something useful to discuss together, and you can keep adding to it until you leave.
